family and cooking

I have fallen a day behind on my countdown to Thanksgiving. My deepest apologies.

[if you are a new reader, I am counting down the days til Thanksgiving by sharing what I am most thankful for]

#8 - my family
Obviously, I wouldn't be here if it were for my Mom & Dad. I'm thankful for their "oops" moment when they found out they were pregnant with me [almost 23 years ago]. I'm thankful to have them as my parents. They have always been there for me, even when I act a fool, and I know they will always continue to be there for me. I'm so grateful to have parents who I know I can run to whenever I need them, with no judgement. I'm also very grateful for the rest of my family. My sister and her little family. My brother and his big family. All 4 of my aunts, 4 uncles, and 9 cousins and their families. My grandparents. I know I have a mob full of people who will be there for me whenever I need them. Sure all of us together gets pretty hectic. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

#7 - cooking
I guess you could really just say I'm grateful for food. Since without food, there would be no cooking. But I'm mostly grateful the way I feel when I cook. Most people find cooking stressful. Chopping. Cutting. Mixing. Baking. Too much work. I find a great sense of peace when I cook. It gives me time to think through my day [while trying not to mess up the recipe]. I'm also very critical of my food. Which is why when I cook a meal, I rarely eat more than 3 bites. I'm always anxious of what people will think of my food. [I really hate disappointing people.] Most people look at this and say, "well if the cook won't eat her own food, why should I?" But little do they know - I'm constantly munching on what I'm cooking. Therefore by the time the meal is made, I'm full.

until next time...
